Bazi Ten Gods Tables: Jia Wood, Yi Wood, Bing Fire, Ding Fire
The Ten Gods (十神 - Shi Shen) define the relationship between your Day Master and every other Heavenly Stem in your Bazi chart. This guide provides complete reference tables for four of the most common Day Masters: Jia Wood (甲木), Yi Wood (乙木), Bing Fire (丙火), and Ding Fire (丁火).
For the conceptual introduction to the Ten Gods system, see the complete Ten Gods guide. For Ji Earth, Geng Metal, and Xin Metal tables, see the companion reference article.
How to Read These Tables
Your Day Master (日主) is the Heavenly Stem of your Day Pillar. Every other stem in your four pillars is interpreted relative to your Day Master using the Five Elements relationships. Use the Bazi calculator to identify your Day Master.
The ten gods follow from the elemental relationships:
- Same element, same polarity = Rob Wealth (劫财 Jie Cai)
- Same element, opposite polarity = Friend / Companion (比肩 Bi Jian)
- Element I produce, same polarity = Hurting Officer (伤官 Shang Guan)
- Element I produce, opposite polarity = Eating God (食神 Shi Shen)
- Element that produces me, same polarity = Indirect Resource (偏印 Pian Yin)
- Element that produces me, opposite polarity = Direct Resource (正印 Zheng Yin)
- Element I control, same polarity = Indirect Wealth (偏财 Pian Cai)
- Element I control, opposite polarity = Direct Wealth (正财 Zheng Cai)
- Element that controls me, same polarity = Seven Killings (七杀 Qi Sha)
- Element that controls me, opposite polarity = Direct Officer (正官 Zheng Guan)

Why These Four Day Masters Together
Jia Wood, Yi Wood, Bing Fire, and Ding Fire represent the Spring and Summer seasons in the cycle — the growth and expansion phases. They share several common patterns:
- Wood Day Masters (Jia, Yi): Metal controls them. Earth is their wealth. Water nourishes them.
- Fire Day Masters (Bing, Ding): Water controls them. Metal is their wealth. Wood nourishes them.
Understanding which element is your Seven Killings and which is your Direct Wealth is essential for reading any Bazi chart. Look for these stems in your Year, Month, Hour, and Day pillars to understand the pressures and opportunities in your life.
Comparing Day Master Sensitivity
Each Day Master handles its controlling element differently:
- Jia Wood with heavy Geng Metal: prone to pressure but can achieve great structure
- Yi Wood with heavy Xin Metal: more vulnerable to emotional challenge, needs Water support
- Bing Fire with heavy Ren Water: the sun covered by clouds — great contrasting energy
- Ding Fire with heavy Gui Water: candle in rain — needs Wood protection
For a deeper dive into how elements interact in your specific chart, see the Five Elements guide and the Day Master reference.
Key Takeaways
- Jia Wood's Seven Killings is Geng Metal (Yang Metal); Yi Wood's is Xin Metal (Yin Metal)
- Bing Fire's Seven Killings is Ren Water (Yang Water); Ding Fire's is Gui Water (Yin Water)
- All four Day Masters use the same polarity logic: same polarity = same "group" ten god, opposite polarity = "direct" ten god
- Direct Wealth (正财) and Direct Officer (正官) are considered more stable, predictable influences
- Seven Killings (七杀) is the most challenging controlling element — also the most transformative when handled well
